Tips For Visiting Singapore
Besides getting inspired for your trip to Singapore with beautiful quotes about waterfalls, here’s a couple things you should keep in mind when visiting Singapore. In addition to this list, you can find more information about things to do in Singapore and travel tips in these posts:
- Singapore Travel Guide
- The Light Show at Gardens By The Bay
- A Checklist for Traveling Abroad
1. Pack lighter clothes
Singapore is extremely hot and humid, so pack light especially if you’re visiting during summer. When we were there immediately after showering we were drenched again by our sweat. The best way to combat this is to pack shorts, dresses, tank tops, and wear sandals that are great for walking — my go to’s are Chacos.
Also, stay hydrated with by packing your hydroflask!
2. Don’t bring gum
Chewing gum in Singapore is illegal and you won’t find it being sold anywhere in the country (or at least I didn’t find it!). My advice is don’t pack it in your suitcase, leave it at home and enjoy it when you return, you don’t want a fine while traveling!
3. It’s an expensive city
Singapore is a very expensive city, but it’s a city unlike any other. We found it to be pricier than our other travels within Asia and to most European cities. However, there are places where the food is affordable in Singapore (and extremely tasty), such as: hawker stalls, Chinatown, Little India, and Arab Street.
4. The water is safe to drink
Feel free to pack your reusable water bottle because the water in Singapore is safe to drink. Fill them up at restaurants, bars, local eateries and more, then continue backpacking Singapore.
5. You can walk the entire city
Singapore is an extremely walk-able country. This city-country is easy to navigate and because its walk-able, it allows you to soak up the city vibes. Truly, it’s an excellent destination for travelers wanting to strengthen their overall wellness while traveling because it’s easy to incorporate exercise and relaxation in the city.
6. Singapore is diverse
In particular, Singapore is made up of four main communities: Chinese, Eurasian, Malay, and Indian. Therefore you’ll find diverse and exquisite Singaporeans dishes representing the various communities throughout the country.
7. The food is incredible
Singapore is renowned for its incredible food and is a foodie’s paradise! Wander and eat through the streets of this tasty country to explore its hidden foodie gems, because they’re everywhere (trust me). Head over to Chinatown and roam through the Hawker stalls for a delicious pit stop.
After, hop on the MRT (public transportation system) to make your way to Arab street and Little India to enjoy the enticing aromas and fuel your belly with more exquisite foods. With this in mind, one of our favorite dishes Evan and I tried was Singapore noodles! Hands down, we recommend giving it a try. If you love noodle dishes, it won’t disappoint.
8. Many Singaporeans speak English
Because many Singaporeans speak English, it makes it easy to travel around the country. In fact, English is one of the main languages spoke in this country. The other languages officially spoken in the city include Malay, Mandarin and Tamal.
