Snacks make the world go round (or at least I like to think so)! Whether you need a post-workout snack or you’re traveling to the next destination on your bucket list, snacks are necessary. You can throw them in your backpack or carry-on to make sure you’re well fed during your trip. I’ve found plant based snacks in particular have less preservatives, less/no sugar, are gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan.

If you’re new to the whole food plant based diet, here’s a couple posts to help you get started:

  • What is a plant-based diet & recipes to get started
  • Vegan vs. vegetarian: What’s the difference?
  • Quick & easy travel recipes

However, one big thing to keep in mind is not all plant based snacks are free from the top 8 allergens (shellfish, wheat, milk, fish, soybean, tree nuts, peanuts, eggs). They’re just more likely to free of the previously listed allergens than other snacks. In my opinion, the best advice is to always double check and read the labels.

I found out the hard way, when I bought a gluten-free pizza that used beyond meat. Naturally I assumed it was vegan too, since it was using beyond meat, but it wasn’t. It used cow cheese, not plant-based cheese, so I gifted it to my husband.

Point is… don’t be like me, read the labels.

Below, you’ll find the best plant based snacks to buy off of Amazon. These are my “go-to snacks” when traveling and some of them can be purchased in bulk so you can have travel snacks now and later. Also, all the snacks are gluten-free, dairy-free and (mostly) vegan.

Plant Based Snacks on Amazon

While these snacks are excellent because they require minimal planning, good old fruits and veggies are also great options for plant based snacks. Here’s a list of ways to spice up apples, carrots, blueberries and more — fresh travel snacks.

Don’t have time to read through it all, here’s a cheat sheet ranking the snacks.

Best sweet snack Maxine’s Heavenly
Best savory snack Vegan Rob’s Puff
Easiest travel snack Blake’s Seed Based Snack Bar

Chickpea Snacks

Price: under $15

Allergy info: gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free

Quantity: Pack of 4

Biena chickpea snacks are a great travel snack to have on hand! I love roasted chickpeas because they’re nutrient-dense, tasty, and packed with fiber and protein. The high fiber and protein content really makes a difference for me because I feel full longer, holding me over till the next meal time.

It’s a perfect snack for hiking, road trips, and to keep at your accommodations.

Vegan Rob’s Puffs

Price: under $35

Allergy info: vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO verified

Quantity: pack of 12

All of Vegan Rob’s Puffs are delicious! I’ve tried almost every flavor and haven’t one I didn’t like. This plant based snack is great because the veggies in the puff changes. Specifically you’ll find, beet puffs, turmeric puffs, spinach puffs, cauliflower puffs, cheddar puffs and more.

While they’re all excellent choices, my favorites are definitely dragon puffs, cheddar puffs and brussels sprout puffs. The dragon puffs are great if you’re craving something spicy, while the cheddar gives you all the vegan cheesy goodness we all love. Also, if you’re leaning towards trying them all, I highly recommend purchasing a variety pack.

Navitas Organics Superfood Power Snacks

Price: under $10

Allergy info: vegan, gluten-free, organic, dairy-free, non-GMO verified

Quantity: pack of 1 (.5 lbs)

If you’re looking for a powerhouse superfood, consider this plant based snack — Navitas Organics. Inside you’ll find eight superfoods that contain beneficial minerals, antioxidants and nutrients for your body. Specifically there’s seeds, nuts, goji berries, cacao and dates.

At first, I was slightly hesitant to try this snack because I can be picky with my sweet snacks. However, I found this snack did the trick whenever I wanted a sweet plant based snack to enjoy on the road. Besides the amazing health benefits, this snack is easy to share, great for road trips, and if you don’t want to pack the whole bag, snag a couple to put in a reusable ziplock baggie.

Blake’s Seed Based Snack Bar

Price: under $20

Allergy info: vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free

Quantity: pack of 1 (comes with 9 bars)

Blake’s Seed Based Snack Bar comes in a variety of flavors and is an excellent choice for those looking for a quick travel snack option. It’s easy to pack and takes up minimal space so you can pack several bars for your trip. If you’re a hiking enthusiasts, this is a great plant based snack to throw into your day pack.

Additionally, each bar contains a concoction of pumpkin seeds, flax seeds and dried fruits or chocolate. Plus, all bars are low in sugar.

Maxine’s Heavenly

Price: under $30

Allergy info: vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, non-GMO, kosher, and no refined sugar

Quantity: pack of 4

The ultimate sweet plant based snacks are Maxine’s Heavenly cookies. Just as the name suggest, this snack is comprised of soft baked gluten-free and vegan cookies that tasty like a slice of heaven. They melt in your mouth and have the perfect chewy texture.

While there are several flavors to try, I would say the best are the peanut butter chocolate chip and the chocolate chocolate chip. I haven’t tried the mint chocolate chip or pumpkin pecan, but those are next on my list!

Enjoy Life Protein Bites

Price: under $50

Allergy info: vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, non-GMO verified, nut-free

Quantity: 1 box comes with about 6

Another great option for a snack high in protein are the Enjoy Life Protein Bites. Enjoy Life is one of my favorite brands that’s both allergy-friendly and plant-based. The protein bites are a perfect snack for refueling during active adventures. They’re also great for hiking, road trips, airplane snacks, to keep in your accommodations or travel snacks to hold you over till dinner time.

Grab a bag which is great for sharing, or snag the single serving options on Amazon if you’re looking for a smaller amount.

Enjoy Life Bites

Price: under $25

Allergy info: vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, non-GMO verified, nut-free

Quantity: 1 box comes with about 6

These cookies are neck and neck with Maxine’s Heavenly’s cookies. They both are soft, chewy, tasty and allergy friendly. I would say the biggest difference I’ve found are the flavors they have. While they each have chocolate chocolate chip, they also have unique flavors the other one doesn’t have.

With Enjoy Life you’ll also find more warming cookies with notes of fresh ginger gently folded into the cookie, buttery snickerdoodle cookies and original chocolate chip cookies. You can also choose from soft-baked cookies (my forever obsession) or crunchy cookies.

Wonderful Pistachios

Price: under $10

Allergy info: gluten Free, non-GMO project verified, (most are dairy-free and vegan)

Quantity: pack of 9

Wonderful Pistachios come in a variety of sizes. The single serving packs are my go-to for air-travel because it’s super convenient for airplanes. However, for road trips, cabin getaways or beach trips I’ve found the 16 oz, 1 lb or 2 lb bags are easier for sharing and typically are more cost effective.

They also come in a variety of flavors: roasted and salted, honey roasted, roasted and lightly salted, chili roasted, bbq, salt and vinegar. You’ll also have the option to buy them shelled or not shelled.

Nature’s Garden Omega 3 Deluxe Mix

Price: under $20

Allergy info: gluten-free, dairy-free, non-GMO

Quantity: pack of 1

If you love trail mix, add Nature’s Garden Omega-3 Deluxe Mix to your snack list. What I love most about this brand is that they label their trail mixes based on the nutrient-rich benefits you receive from the nuts and seeds. They’re super mindful with their labeling, making it easy for you to be mindful with your plant based snacks.

In addition, for those wanting to support their brain health, there’s an omega-3 trail mix. If you need more probiotics for your gut, try their immune mix filled with probiotic nuts. There’s also a heart healthy mix.

Sidenote: My favorite is the omega-3 deluxe mix because I love that it has pistachios in it.

LAIKI Black Rice Crackers

Price: under $5

Allergy info: vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, non-GMO

Quantity: pack of 1

These LAIKI crackers come in two different shades — red and black. The black crackers use black rice, while the red crackers use red rice. I’ve tried both of them and they’re insanely delicious. The texture is light, fluffy, airy, somewhat buttery with a nice crunch in every bite.

They work well on their own and pair nicely with hummus, vegan cheese, soup, and chili.

Power Up Trail Mix – Antioxidant Mix

Price: under $20

Allergy info: vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free

Quantity: pack of 2

If you’re craving a chocolatey trail mix, Power Up Trail Mix is your jam. The chocolate is vegan and the mixture is loaded with antioxidants that come from the berries and nuts. There’s also a fruity flavor which is equally delicious. Inside you’ll find dried papaya, pineapple, raisins, and cranberries, giving you the sweet flavor without the chocolate.

This trail mix works great for road trips, day trips and beach days. It also works great for air-travel, but you may need to place it in a reusable plastic bag first as the trail mix bag is quiet large.

RXBAR Rx Oats

Price: under $30

Allergen info: gluten-free, dairy-free

Quantity: pack of 9

While it’s not technically a snack, I think oats can be eaten anytime of the day. What’s special about these oats by RXBAR Rx Oats is that they’re high in protein. This is great for anyone looking for quick plant based snacks that are high in protein.

These are dairy-free, but not vegan as they contain egg whites. The texture and taste remind me of the topping on a fluffy cobbler as it’s quiet tasty. The best flavor is apple cinnamon. Top it with extra apple, a dollop of vegan yogurt and wallah — you’ve just made your own mini sized apple cobbler.

RXBAR Protein Bar

Price: under $20

Allergen info: gluten-free, dairy-free

Quantity: pack of 12

Oats aren’t the only thing RXBAR offers. They offer a variety of high protein bars to take with you on the road. Some of the flavors they sell include chocolate sea salt, mixed berry, peanut butter, maple sea salt, mint chocolate, apple cinnamon, blueberry, peanut butter chocolate and more.

Made in Nature Dried Mangoes

Price: under $30

Allergen info: gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, unsulfured

Quantity: pack of 1

Dried fruit is always a staple when it comes to plant based snacks. There’s apricots, raisins, pineapple, cranberries, goji berries and mangoes! Mangoes are by far my favorite dried fruit snack because of they’re sweet, juicy and taste like summer year around.

This brand, Made in Nature, uses juicy mangoes that are unsulfured and sugar-free.

If you’re looking for plant based snacks, consider adding dried mangoes to your list (spice it up with chili lime if want to feel the tingly burn) or any other dried fruit you like/are interested in trying. Made in Nature also carries dried figs, banana slices, figgy pops, dates, goji berries, coconut chips and much more.
