Upon visiting Barcelona City, I was a little nervous about finding places that have a vegan dessert or finding a gluten free bakery near me. Every time I passed a gelato shop or bakery, I would cross my fingers and shut my eyes tight. I would hope to find a sweet treat I could enjoy. Slowly, I would peak my head inside the restaurants in Barcelona to check if there were options that were dairy-free, vegan or gluten-free. If there was an option for a vegan dessert, I would mentally shout “Success”! If I found a gluten free dessert, I would do a quick victory dance.

I’m a big foodie with a huge sweet tooth, so healthy desserts are one thing I’m always looking for on the road. If you’re traveling to Barcelona with a plant based, whole food diet, don’t worry! There are so many Barcelona restaurants for you to indulge in your sugar cravings. The best plant based desserts, vegan desserts and gluten free restaurants available can be found in the Barcelona Born neighborhood. However, there are plenty of options throughout the city, because vegan Barcelona does exist is thriving.

Here’s a list of the best gluten free dairy free restaurants in Barcelona to eat some extraordinary dessert. There you can enjoy gluten free food or dairy free desserts. Just make sure to double check the ingredients before ordering, as not all the options are gluten or dairy free.

1. A Vegan Dessert at the Cream

dairy free ice cream with vegan chocolate and caramel

Where to find it: Carrer de la Princesa, 26, 08003, Barcelona, Spain

Money: $

The Cream is located in the Born Neighborhood Barcelona and serves a vegan dessert. This dairy free ice cream shop has vegan soft-serve ice cream for you to enjoy any time of the year. They use a rice milk base, making this vegan dessert extremely creamy and rich. It’s served in cups loaded with various toppings, and some of these toppings are even gluten free.

Tip: When ordering, be sure to check the signs as not all desserts are non-dairy or vegan.

2. A Vegan Dessert at Demasié

a vegan dessert that consists of cinnamon roll with nutella on top

Where to find it: Carrer de la Princesa, 28, 08003, Barcelona, Spain

Money: $

Demasié is a bakery with a vegan dessert option located next door to The Cream. This coffee and dessert shop makes it a popular destination for any weather in Barcelona at the time. Its biggest plant based seller is an exquisite vegan dessert; an immaculate lush cinnamon roll. You can opt for the traditional cinnamon roll with thick, creamy vegan white frosting or go with the delectable chocolatey Nutella frosting. Unfortunately, the cinnamon buns are not a gluten free food, but the rolls are amazing with a perfect combination of cinnamon and sweet goodness rolled into a tight little bun.

Tip: If you want your cinnamon bun piping hot, they’ll warm it up for you.

3. A Vegan Dessert at Teresa’s

Where to find it: Carrer de l’Argenteria, 31, 08003, Barcelona, Spain

Money: $-$$

Teresa’s is a health food restaurant in the Barcelona Born neighborhood. It’s actually one of my favorite places for a vegan dessert near me because at the time, I was living in the Barcelona Gothic Quarter. A quick seven minute walk meant gluten free food near me waiting to be devoured. Teresa’s gluten free bakery contains different types of sweet cakes and muffins. It also has smoothie bowls, cold pressed juices and purees. Everything is labeled, so it’s very easy to navigate through the menu with dietary restrictions.

4. Vegan Gelato at Gelaaati Di Marco

Dairy free ice cream in a cup

Where to find it: Carrer de la Llibreteria, 7, 08002, Barcelona, Spain

Money: $

Gelaaati Di Marco is in the Gothic Quarter Barcelona and is one of the best places to get dairy free ice cream. Above each of the ice-creams they have a sign that lists all the ingredients for any dietary restrictions you may have (gluten free, dairy-free, vegan, nut-free). Also, they have a plethora of non-dairy flavors ranging from extra dark chocolate to lemon basil.

This restaurant is at the top of my list for Barcelona things to do as a popular spot for some refreshing summer dessert. If you happen to be visiting during late summer, be sure to stay for the annual festival of La Mercè, and take your delicious scoop of ice cream with you to the festival.

Tip: Not sure which one to buy? Ask for a sample! The staff are all extremely friendly and will let you try as many flavors as you would like.

5. A Vegan Dessert at La Besnéta

Where to find it: Carrer de Torrijos, 37, 08012 Barcelona, Spain

Money: $-$$

La Besnéta is a vegan bakery located in the Barcelona Gracia neighborhood. They only use seasonal products for their baked goodies, which range from decadent carrot cakes to salty sweet treats to appetizing little desserts in mini glass jars. Since the bakery is vegan, all items are non-dairy foods. Moreover, all of their products are also low in gluten. Although they don’t have many gluten free options on display, they do have gluten free cookies ready for purchase once you enter their bakery.

Tip: If you are wanting other gluten free foods, they do have a gluten free bakery. Therefore, any specific treat you see inside the vegan restaurant can be made gluten free. However, you will need to custom order it.

Wooow! I am so impressed that you found loads of vegan options! We LOVE the whole Catalonian region, but I have to admit, I found it very hard to find vegetarian food outside of Barcelona, let alone vegan goodies!

    These look so, soooo good!
