Typical prices for an Airbnb in Malta
You’ll find prices starting as low as $60 per night for affordable stays all the way to $300 per night for luxury accommodations. It really depends on what you’re looking for. We’ve personally stayed on both ends of the spectrum, but we love a good deal. And, a fully equipped kitchen.
It’s important to note, some of these prices may vary depending on where your accommodations are located. For instance, bigger cities like Valletta have wider price ranges than smaller cities. And, they have more vacation rentals to choose from.
While Malta is more expensive than traveling through Eastern Europe (i.e. Romania, Bulgaria, etc.), the prices are still reasonable. I’ve found it to be much cheaper than traveling to London, Switzerland, Barcelona, and many other major European cities.
So no matter where your accommodations are in Malta, you’ll likely score a pretty good deal.
Best cities to stay in Malta
When it comes to booking a Malta Airbnb, I highly suggest booking based on what you plan on doing. Or, based on what type of vacation you’re craving.
Evan and I found that these cities listed below each had certain aesthetics and vibes. For example, if you’re a history buff, Valletta will be screaming come stay here! But if you’re a Game of Thrones fanatic, well there’s another city that will catch your eye. Enter Mdina.
Valletta
The capital of Malta is Valletta. It’s by far our favorite city to stay in Malta because there’s so much to do, like nibble on homemade foods, explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and eat some more! Clearly, we’re foodies. If you’re a foodie too, here’s some excellent restaurants in Valletta to chow down at.
Beyond being close to tasty Maltese foods, Valletta is right by the water. Meaning your Airbnb can also have a seaside view if you wish. This goes for UNESCO World Heritage Sites, museums, and more.
For nightlife lovers, Valletta also takes the cake as the best location to stay at.
Birgu
Malta has three fortified cities that are extremely famous — Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua. Known as the “Three Cities”, these areas are the backbone of Maltese history. To this day, these cities still provide homes to the Maltese people.
Birgu (formerly know as Vittoriosa) is another great place to find a beautiful accommodation in Malta. It’s also one of the oldest cities in the country.
If you’re staying here you’re bound to get gorgeous views of the sea and some stunning architecture. It’s also extremely close to Valletta.
Mdina
Did someone say Game of Thrones? Yup, you read that right. If you love Game of Thrones and want a mother of dragons type experience, then you’ll love booking a rental in (or nearby) this medieval city.
I’m not promising that your rentals will be loaded with GOT themed decor, but if you’re staying in this city, you’ll likely be walking distance away from the Mdina Fortress.
Remember the scene when Lady Catelyn Stark rode into King’s Landing to find her beloved husband Ned Stark? She was accompanied by Ser Rodrick Cassel. Once they reached the gate, two guards met them. Well, that’s the Mdina Gate. It was in Season 1, Episode 3 of “Game of Thrones”.
On top of the beautiful architecture, Mdina is awfully romantic at night. It has bistros and eateries quietly sitting around every nook and cranny begging to be explored.
Rabat
Right outside of Mdina is Rabat. It’s also an inland city that’s worth a visit as both Mdina and Rabat combined made up the former Malta capital, Melita. This was during the Roman era.
Nevertheless, Rabat has it’s own charm with lovely medieval architecture and eateries. While Mdina is still the biggest attraction, this is also a nice place to stay.
Saint Paul’s Bay
For those craving a bedroom apartment rental with charming beach vibes, St. Paul’s Bay wins this round. Even though the ocean can be seen from various cities in Malta, very few cities have sandy beaches. Luckily, St. Paul’s Bay is one of those!
That being said, it has the best beaches on the island. They’re also the most popular.
Plus, it also rivals Valletta’s nightlife so you’ll likely find some amazing bars, lounges, and clubs such as Velvet Lounge Club or Cafe Del Mar.
So, if you’re craving sand between the crevices of your toes you’ll find great choices here for an Airbnb in Malta.

Modern vacation rental near the sea
Location: San Pawl il-Baħar (near Saint Paul’s Bay)
This brand new rental is also located in San Pawl il-Baħar near Saint Paul’s Bay, which means it’s by the sea! It’s beautifully decorated with accents of yellow throughout this spacious modern apartment. The kitchen is fully equipped for all your cooking joys. It also has air conditioning (which is coin based, so it may be an added fee depending on usage), WIFI, a balcony, and a washer.
But what I love about this apartment is that it’s long-term stay approved and it has luggage drop of. That means no more lugging your luggage around after a morning flight before you’re able to check in. Tell me I’m not the only person this happens too!
With that in mind, this Malta Airbnb is a one bedroom rental that’s great for long stay travelers, and couple travel. It’s also great for family travel as you’ll find high chairs and travel cribs to use.

This Airbnb in Malta is specifically located in Birgu (Vittoriosa) — one of The Three Cities. Nevertheless, this house has 3-bedrooms and can fit up to 6 guests. Even furry friends are allowed here! Talk about the best summer house.
