Every day at about 8:00 pm, without fail, I come up with ideas for healthy snacks to eat for the next day. It’s like clockwork for me, eating healthy easy snacks, in order to keep the hanger monsters at ease. (The monsters really enjoy fresh spicy guacamole and tortilla chips, but I’ll save the list for quick healthy snacks down below.) However, two years ago, this snacking habit changed to reflect a more plant based diet for snacking, after I sustained a a traumatic brain injury, or TBI.
Nevertheless, a couple months after the initial injury, a neurologist further diagnosed me with post-concussion syndrome. Some of these symptoms include migraines, headaches, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, and brain fog.
I won’t go into full detail in this post, but more about this wellness living journey from pain to thriving while traveling, can read in my transformational travel experience.
Why I try to eat healthy snacks
In order to manage my pain from the TBI, both my neurologist and naturopathic doctor put me on an intensive health diet. This diet consisted of being gluten-free, dairy-free, corn-free, sugar-free and a couple other “frees”. With these changes, my typical mid-afternoon snack routine was interrupted. Grabbing any type of granola bar wouldn’t suffice anymore, and the days of snacking endlessly on cheese and crackers had to come to an end. (Although there are tasty dairy-free cheese and gluten-free crackers! I just decided to spread my baby gluten-free wings and try other snacks.)
Instead, I took this interruption as an opportunity to enhance my well-being with ideas for healthy snacks to ease to the pain. This was a new wellness journey to discover what healthy easy snacks I could eat during the day, healthy snacks for road trips, and understanding how to further optimize the art of snacking to feel good.

At first it felt like doomsday when I began weeding out all the delicious snacks that contained gluten, dairy and corn. But the more I stuck to the health diet and incorporating wellness tips when traveling, the more my wellness within began to improve. Although diet alone isn’t the only reason I felt better, it made a HUGE difference in the pain levels.
For one thing, I intentionally placed wellness living at the forefront of my snacking decisions. Slowly, the traumatic brain injury symptoms improved and the amount of migraines lessened. As I continued to focus on my health and wellness, eating healthy snacks that were plant-powered became easier each day.
So what ideas for healthy snacks do I have?
