Are you looking for the best hotels in Wadi Rum? This astral destination is filled with dramatic skylines, jagged peaks, and ruby red sand dunes. Known as the Valley of the Moon, this dreamy desert valley is a haven for electrifying adventures as well as moments of astute reflections and re-connections.

Wadi Rum is located in Southern Jordan close to the border of Saudi Arabia. It’s a beautiful four hour drive from Amman, the capital. You’ll find it at the top of any lists for “best things to do in Jordan”, and for good reason too.

This Arabian desert is a protected area and in 1962, Wadi Rum made its global debut with the award-winning film, Lawrence of Arabia. It joined the ranks as a UNESCO world Heritage Site in 2011 and ever since, it has been gaining global recognition. Several popular movies have been filmed in this mystical desert such as Disney’s live action Aladdin (2019) and Dune (2021).

Wadi Rum is truly a magical place and I highly recommend a visit!

It’s one of my favorite destinations in the world! It’s truly special to me as it’s where my partner and I fanned the flames of romance. I hadn’t traveled to Jordan in ten years, so when the Jordan Tourism Board and Royal Jordanian invited me on assignment to experience their current wellness and adventure offerings, I screamed.

If you’re planning a trip to this otherworldly desert, make sure to read through my safety guide to Jordan before you go. Then, keep on reading to find the best hotels to stay at in Wadi Rum! All opinions in this piece are my own.

When is the best time to visit Wadi Rum?

A photo of me walking in the desert of Wadi Rum.

Anytime can be an excellent time to visit Wadi Rum as the climate is a hot and arid. In fact, it’s one of the driest places in the world! While you’re guaranteed sunshine year around due to the climate, in my opinion, the best time to visit is spring and fall.

During spring you can expect to see some colorful wildflowers and the average temperature is between 68–93°F. Baby goats are being born and you might spot a baby camel! Make sure to pack a rain jacket as spring showers do happen in the desert.

Temperatures during the fall are relatively close to spring and tend to hover around 59–95°F. This is the most popular season to visit the desert as it has the best weather. Keep in mind that as November approaches, temperatures will drop.

Summer often brings scorching afternoon heat and occasional sandstorms, but its the best time for stargazing. Winter, on the other hand, has pleasant weather in the afternoon for outdoor activities. However, it can be quiet cold at night.

What are the best hotels in Wadi Rum?

Wadi Rum UFO Luxotel

  • Highlights: Stunning valley views, Stargazing, amazing food, hammocks, great for couples, solo travelers, and families
  • Price: $$
  • Hotel type: Bubble hotel

If you’re looking to go glamping in Wadi Rum, Wadi Rum UFO Luxotel is an excellent choice! This is one of my personal favorite places to stay in the desert because it feels as if you’re sleeping beneath the stars from the comfort of your bed. Open the glass-like dome to experience the breathtaking stars at night or leave it closed for privacy.

In addition, each luxury bubble tent has a private deck equipped with a hammock, chairs, and a table. Keep in mind that there’s no WiFi in the room so you can soak up all the desert has to offer. Digital detox anyone? Complimentary WiFi can be found in the main lobby along with free breakfast.

Memories Aicha Luxury Camp

  • Highlights: Mountain views, vegetarian options at restaurant, and beautiful decor
  • Price: $$
  • Hotel type: Bubble hotel

Another hotel that’s wonderful for glamping is Memories Aicha Luxury Camp. Each tent is beautifully embellished with traditional Jordanian decor. From bright red drapes and hexagon tables to mosaic style lamps, the luxurious atmosphere of the tent is immediately felt.

Guest will also find a Mediterranean restaurant onsite with plenty of vegetarian options. Grab a bite to eat, soak up the views of the dramatic mountains from your room, or enjoy a bonfire.

Wadi Rum Bubble Luxotel

Wadi Rum Bubble Luxotel is of the best hotels in Wadi Rum.
  • Highlights: Private jacuzzi, beautiful valley views, tasty food, stargazing, great for couples, and solo travelers
  • Price: $$$
  • Hotel type: Bubble hotel

Wadi Rum Bubble Luxotel is the sister hotel to UFO Luxotel. Found on the same property, this bubble dome offers an even more intimate experience with a private jacuzzi on deck. From the stunning views and flavorful cuisine to the luxurious interior, guest will find themselves swept away by the serenity of Wadi Rum.

If you’re looking for a romantic experience, this is one of the best hotels in Wadi Rum to stay at.

Nael Bedouin Camp

  • Highlights: Coffee shop, Bedouin style experiences, mountain views, and delicious food
  • Price: $
  • Hotel type: Bedouin style tent and bubble hotel

If you love a quaint coffee shop, you’ll want stay at Nael Bedouin Camp. Why? Because this property has an on-site coffee shop that’s made to satisfy any coffee craving.

What’s unique about this hotel is guests have the option to choose between a bubble tent or a more traditional Bedouin style tent. I’ve stayed at a traditional Bedouin camp before and it’s unlike anything else! The rugs are brightly colored and intricately woven, while the food is slow-cooked in an underground oven known as a zārb.

It’s a luxurious spin on a traditional Bedouin camp and is great for any traveler wanting to experience a more Bedouin style stay. The camp also has a restaurant, WiFi, and some rooms have a outdoor patio.

Authentic Bedouin Camp

  • Highlights: Bedouin style experience, serves pastries, local specialties, great for families and groups
  • Price: $
  • Hotel type: Bedouin style tent

Authentic Bedouin Camp is another camp that’s great for travelers looking for an Bedouin experience in Wadi Rum. The camp is filled with lavishly decorated tents that have giant window to take in the beauty of the desert. Watch the sunrise from your bed or step outside on the balcony to experience Mars on earth.

The restaurant serves up some local specialties and WiFi is available here. This is a great stay for groups, families, and solo travelers.

✅ Is it worth going to Wadi Rum?

Yes, yes, yes! This unworldly destination is unlike any place on earth. From the dramatic jagged ridges and red rustic sand dunes to the Bedouins welcoming you with homemade piping hot tea, adventure calls every traveler to this destination. You’ll find options for outdoor enthusiasts (like myself), luxury travelers, romantic couples getaways, and more.

✅ Is it worth staying overnight?

Yes, it’s 100% worth staying overnight. Wadi Rum is located in the southern parts of Jordan and it’s quite the drive from other parts of the country. From Amman it’s around 3.5 hours by car and from Aqaba it’s 1 hour.

Wadi Rum is also one of the most beautiful destinations in the world for stargazing! It’s called the “Valley of the Moon” and to witness its grandiose glistening moon you’ll have to stay well into the night.

✅ Is one day enough?

In my opinion, no it’s not. I’ve visited Wadi Rum twice and the first thing I hear everyone say is “I wish I had more time here”. With that in mind, I highly recommend staying at least two nights here.

Conclusion: The Best Hotels in Wadi Rum

No matter what hotel you choose to stay at in Wadi Rum, you can’t go wrong. From glamping and camping to staying in traditional Bedouin tents, the magic of Wadi Rum is alluring and powerful. It can be felt from everywhere within the desert!
