Famous for its assortment of creamy, salty cheeses and sweet smelling fresh baked bread, I found an abundance of gluten-free restaurants in Barcelona, Spain. If the restaurant I found wasn’t completely gluten-free, they at least had several gluten-free options.
Each eatery has their unique spin on either traditional food in Spain or a fusion of international cuisines. My favorites were the robustly flavored vegan paellas loaded with grilled zucchini and bell peppers, and gluten-free lightly fried churros with semisweet rich dark chocolate. Yum!
Below are some of the top Barcelona restaurants where you can find gluten-free and dairy-free options. Some of them are dine in restaurants with a charming ambiance. Others are quick eats, with a grab and go option, but all are excellent choices for travelers with food allergies.
The latter is my favorite option on vibrantly warm summer afternoons. It’s so nice to swing by a health food restaurant and grab some delicious gluten-free food to savor at a charming picnic in Park Ciutadella in Barcelona City.
There’s also a plethora of coffee and dessert restaurants with vegan and dairy-free treats to check out too!

Flax and Kale
Where to find it: Carrer de Sant Pere Més Alt, 31, 33, 08003 Barcelona
Price: $$
When I first stumbled upon Flax and Kale, I thought there was only one of this health restaurant. But there’s actually four locations in Barcelona and one in Madrid. Each spot has its own unique personality and character. My first encounter with these completely gluten-free restaurants was at the Flax and Kale passage location.
If you’re a kombucha lover, this location is for you. It has a kombucha bar where you can sip away on the local craft. If you’re practicing sustainability, bring your own empty bottle to refill it with the refreshing beverage.
This completely gluten-free, dairy-free restaurant (except for one dish) clearly marks all the food under the following categories: gluten-free, raw food, plant-based, and oily fish. They make a wide array of healthy food options to order.
From artisanal savory pasta dishes to mozzarella plant-based pizzas to Asian fusion plates filled with mangoes, coconuts and other greens, you won’t leave hungry. They also serve weekend brunch, smoothies for health, and decadent desserts such as white miso ginger cheesecake. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Barcelona.
I can’t wait to return for this one! I’ve been eyeing the spicy jack-fruit curry.

Blu Bar

Blu Bar is another vegan Barcelona restaurant which serves some heavenly vegan food. The interior atmosphere is extremely inviting with its pleasant lighting and cozy wooden benches. It’s outside terrace vibes provide a great ambiance to eat some tasty food while soaking in some good old sunshine. The staff are incredibly friendly and greet you the instant you approach this health conscious restaurant.
I highly recommend this vegan restaurant as the dishes are insanely good! They serve different types of pastas, warm flat-breads, cheesy pizzas and vegan desserts for those wanting something sweet to eat. Not everything here is gluten-free but they do have options to choose from. All gluten-free options are clearly marked on the menu.

Cal Màrius 449 is a taste of Spanish culture right on your plate. This restaurant is located near La Sagrada Familia Barcelona. It offers traditional tapas calientes (hot small plates) and tapas frías (cold small plates) all of which are completely gluten-free!
I was excited to learn of Cal Màrius 449 because now I can enjoy some of my favorite Spanish tapas, croquettes and empanadas, gluten-free. But, the even better part is that they have several different croquettes to choose from! From spinach, fish, chicken and pastrami, there’s a variety of options.
They also serve tortilla (a Spanish egg omelet), hamburgers, and best of all, bagel sandwiches. If you’re a pastrami lover, they have a popular pastrami bagel. Some of the bagel sandwiches do come with cheese, so have them swap it out for extra veggies to make your meal dairy-free. Or ask for only veggies to make it vegan.
In addition, Cal Màrius 449 also has gluten-free beer and some extraordinary gluten-free desserts they serve — creamy chocolate Oreo cake, or sweet apple pie.
Tip: Double check with the staff before ordering dessert if you have a dairy allergy, as I don’t think all desserts are dairy-free.

Copasetic

Copasetic is another health food restaurant that dishes out belly-warming plates in the style of comfort food. This restaurant is the ideal spot for those wanting a cute cosy brunch spot, yet it also dishes out comfort food for lunch and dinner. Either way this place won’t disappoint!

Falafel Bowl – Barcelona restaurants with quick eat options
Where to find it: Carrer de Ferran, 13, 08002 Barcelona
Price: $
Moaz is gluten-free vegan restaurant that’s perfect for anyone wanting some health fast food options. Although it’s a chain that originally started in Amsterdam, I wanted to include it because of their renowned gluten-free falafels. (Plus if you’re traveling to other European cities like Prague, here’s another vegan travel guide to check out.)
This vegan Barcelona restaurant always has a line out the door smack into the middle of the bustling street because it’s that good!
You can put your falafels in a bowl or pita, then top it with freshly-cut quality vegetable found in their salad bar. They have savory roasted cauliflower, natural sweet cucumber and tomatoes, spicy chili salsas, different types of olives, and basically anything you can think of to pair with your falafel.
Best of all, all the sauces are non-dairy foods. So top that pita or falafel bowl off with either a spicy chili sauce, creamy vegan yogurt tahini, or ketchup.
My favorite was the spicy chili sauce! It packed a powerful punch and really brought out the flavor of the falafel and olives that I stacked on high in my bowl.
If you’re like me and want to try them all at once, make a “suicide sauce”. Aka mix all them if you can’t decide! Or maybe don’t cause it may not taste the best, but its your taste buds so do as you please!
Tip: If you can’t decide what sauce or topping to use, you can make a second trip to the salad bar if you’re eating in the restaurant. So you can try that other enticing sauce or grab more veggies. I definitely went back for more cauliflower because it was THAT good!
Restaurant Gut

All their food simply looks and smells divine! I know when I return to Barcelona I’ll be stopping by to try the gluten-free rice noodle pad thai mixed with dark leafy greens and vegetable balls. Yum!
Want to check out Restaurant Gut’s menu? I know those juicy noodles are tempting you!

Oooh these look amazing, even if you’re not normally vegan or gluten free! I hope we’ll go back to this area to see my husband’s family again, so I will have to remember some of these. I especially love the look of Cal Màrius 449 and Honest Greens. Nom!
Shafinah Neville
This is such such DELICIOUS coverage – even for non-vegans! ❤️
Katy Emanuel
This is great, this is always one of my struggles when travelling is finding places that are safe for me to eat. Being celiac, I do get nervous about travelling at times simply for the fact, that I don’t know if there will be anywhere safe to eat. Looks like so many great places to eat.
Vikki Ewert
Wow, this is great! In 2019 I gave up gluten, dairy, and eggs in an attempt to reduce inflammation and joint pain and manage some digestive challenges. I have dreams of traveling to Europe someday (Paris is my first destination to visit Aussie friends there for 2 more years) and I’ve had concerns about how I’ll manage with food. I want to still have fun, but need to feel healthy to enjoy the experience. This a great service you’re providing travelers.
Alexandra B
Barcelona is one of my favorite cities! As someone who has lived in Spain I know how hard it is to find vegan or healthy restaurants LOL. Thank you for your insight!

Ooooh, these are some yummy recommendations, thank you! I was surprised about the great number of vegetarian food options in Barcelona too nowadays as in the past it was really meat-heavy. And I really love your happy face near the top of the post (holding a bag of roasted nuts?) ^-^
